This activity from the Exploratorium shows how to investigate afterimages, the shapes you see after looking at bright objects and then looking away. With a flashlight and a few other everyday materials, you can do afterimage experiments and then read an explanation of what happens. The site also describes extensions to observations of the moon and provides information about night vision.
